- The CPS holds that psychoanalysis is indispensable to the deep understanding of human personality, behavior, motivation, and interaction.
- Psychoanalysis is a living and evolving discipline. The course of its historical development and its modern additions and modifications are equally important.
- Psychoanalysis is a valuable form of treatment. It also serves as the foundation underlying the various dynamic psychotherapies.
- All schools of psychoanalytic thought are welcome at CPS.
- We strive to recognize common denominators among disparate schools and viewpoints within psychoanalysis as well as clarifying and appreciating differences in approach and understanding.
- In our members, we highly prize both collegiality and individuality. We aspire to create a setting where differences in approach and viewpoint can be understood and appreciated in an atmosphere of mutual respect, vitality, and safety.

Goals:

- To form study groups to explore topics of interest in psychoanalysis.
- To develop a psychoanalytic psychotherapy program.
- To develop a psychoanalytic training program.
- To develop a program of psychoanalytic research.
- To demonstrate the relevance and utility of psychoanalytic principles to: professionals in allied disciplines (e.g. health care, child development, education) and to underserved and minority communities.
- To bring psychoanalytic perspectives to other groups and disciplines.

- The organizational structure of CPS will be as horizontal and inclusive as possible.
CPS is a Nonprofit, Tax-Exempt, Public Benefit 501c(3) Corporation.
