CPS Educational Programs:

CPS is pleased to present our 2005-2006 Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program, a comprehensive 32-week multi-track course in the fundamental and advanced principles of psychodynamic psychotherapy. Our first year provides participants with a working knowledge of psychodynamic theory, technique and practice.

Year One is especially well-suited for psychiatric residents, psychology interns, clinical social work students, and marriage and family therapy students, as well as those practitioners who seek more knowledge and competence in psychoanalytic interventions. A certificate will be awarded upon completion of this program and graduates may choose to matriculate to the next track of seminars.

Year Two reviews the major schools of psychoanalytic theory including: Freud, Ego Psychology, Object Relations, Self Psychology, Intersubjectivity, and Attachment Theory. Case presentations are integrated into the didactic material to afford students the opportunity to examine ways the different theoretical perspectives can shed light on what transpires in actual clinical hours and how theory informs technique.

Year Three focuses on effective interventions for specific clinical problems including but not limited to: depression, phobias, anxiety, eating disorders, narcissism, borderline personality, psychosis, and addiction. The various ways the major psychoanalytic schools approach the therapist-patient interaction and the therapeutic process will provide the foundation for seminar discussions. This track, comprised of years Two and Three, is especially well suited for practitioners who have completed a one-year psychoanalytic psychotherapy program, or who can demonstrate proficiency in core psychoanalytic concepts. Each year is comprised of 32 two-hour seminars blending didactic material with clinical case presentations.
